While many in the music industry probably know Jonathan Moody from his work at GHS Strings, where he serves as Director of Social Media and Product Development, the bow-tie-loving businessman’s reputation extends far beyond the boardroom. He’s also a sought after freelance bassist with a musical resume that spans multiple genres, including classical, jazz, rock and folk. Moody has an exceptional amount of experience in the world of musical theatre where he’s performed in over a 100 musical productions, everything from Ain’t Misbehavin’ to West Side Story. The versatile bass player has also recorded and performed with artists like Dennis Edwards, Leif Garrett, Christopher Sloan, Blue Dahlia and Patricia Pettinga and released two albums of his own solo material, Music for Our Hands and A Little Insomnia.
During a meetup at the 2018 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, FBPO’s Jon Liebman spoke with Moody about his initial reluctance to go electric, how he was influenced by Oteil Burbridge and Slam Stewart and new developments at GHS.
