Top-tier U.K. session bassist talks Squeeze, Hans Zimmer gigs, plus ambitious plans top help others appreciate music

Yolanda Charles has led one of those musical careers that just makes you stop and go, “Wow!” As a touring and session player she’s worked with the likes of Robbie Williams, Paul Weller, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Daryll Hall, and Sinead O’Connor. She’s also been active in film and television and has toured and recorded with acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer for a series of shows in Europe, the South Pacific, and the United States. Beyond that, she’s a former member of the band Squeeze and has been appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her efforts in the U.K. music industry. Charles is also a songwriter, educator, and bandleader who currently heads up the group Project pH.
