A native of Cameroon, Etienne Mbappé is a bassist, guitarist, composer and bandleader. Best known for playing bass with Joe Zawinul and John McLaughlin, Mbappé has also worked with Carlos Santana, Ray Charles, Salif Keita, Manu Dibango, Steps Ahead and many others.
Mbappé has released two albums as a leader, Misiya and Su La Take. His music is described as a mixture of funk, fusion, jazz and Cameroonian influences, as well as classical and Afro-pop. He is also well known for his trademark “glove-wearing” bass technique! Etienne uses EBS amps and effects.
