Brandon Rose is a bassist, vocalist, producer, composer, and arranger from Detroit, MI. His musical versatility makes him a standout artist across many genres from jazz, gospel, R&B, and funk to hip-hop and pop. As a masterful electric and upright bass doubler, Brandon has collaborated with prolific artists including Lukas Graham, Keyon Harrold, Patrice Rushen, Terri Lyne Carrington, Dan Wilson, Etienne Charles, and The Baylor Project.
Having earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University, Brandon’s journey has been enriched by the mentorship of renowned bass legends Marcus Miller and Rodney Whitaker. Throughout 2025, he has been releasing singles of his original music while appearing at esteemed venues including the Tokyo Blue Note and the DC Jazz Festival.
In our conversation, Brandon talks about the importance of groove, shares advice for aspiring bass players, and reflects on why, as he puts it, “without feel, playing bass is just a bunch of notes.”
